Mmm . . . Fuzz.

I'm a big fan of a good Fuzz Face. Fortunately, every fancy pants boutique effect manufacturer and his dog sells a version, so you don't have to make your own.

Here's a few that are quite nice:

The Canadian Made MJM London Fuzz & London Fuzz II.

These are neat fuzzes that have the unique virtue of including an adapter jack. Like the original fuzz faces, they vary considerably unit to unit. I have owned 5 of them, and each sounds very noticably different. The above clip is the best of the bunch - a particularly hot London Fuzz built into a custom painted blue Arbiter Fuzz Face shell.

The Alfonso Hermida Modded Fuzz Face

The same Alf Hermida of Zendrive fame once upon a time had a habit of modding fuzz faces. I had the pleasure of owning a blue one of his that produced a fine classic growl:

The FoxRox Fuzz Foot

Super Rockin' is an understatement. This has got to be the finest fuzz face style fuzz currently in production. It's available as one of the three pedals of the FoxRox Captain Coconut 2, and is soon to be available as a standalone. Even though I already have a CC2, I'll be sure to pickup another one of these. The clips below use the Hot Silicon Fuzz Card

The Crest Audio Fuzz Face

This is by far my favorite fuzz, of all that I have heard. The Crest Audio Fuzz Face was designed and manufactured by Dave Fox of Foxrox Electronics fame when he worked for Crest Audio during the 80s. At some point, you should check out the full story from the horse's mouth. At any rate, this is magical. It has a unique smoothness and cleans up brilliantly.

Euthymia Crucible Fuzz

This is a current production unit that claims to be a clone of the fabled Crest Audio Fuzz Face made by Dave Fox. I have 2 of them, and I'd say the Crest Audio tone is 95% there. What's nice about these is the price, a mere $125 from the good folx at Tonefactor.
Unfortunately the one clip I made of this pedal has a badly out of tune note, and its too embarrasing to post.
. . .
Ok, you talked me into it, but don't say I didn't warn you. http://www.inrerocknroll.com/tunes/CompFuzz.mp3
